Introduction

Over a roughly eighteen month period from the summer of 2003 until spring 2005 we undertook the development of our own five year business plan. Such a simple sentence however, gives no indication of the amount of effort and sheer hard work this process ended up demanding! Looking back on this period it is now possible to discern two important things:

  • How essential the end result is for the long term structured development of the organisation.
  • How much easier the whole process might have been had we had the benefit of a little guidance and an adaptable template to work too!

The purpose of this toolkit therefore is to provide a little of that guidance and to offer an adaptable template for the structure of a plan – which can be accepted wholesale, adapted at will or rejected entirely…whatever solution best suits the needs of your organisation or group!
