Introduction

The aim of this toolkit is to provide help and guidance for our membership within Sandwell who are seeking funding in support of their activities. It has been designed specifically to meet the needs of our membership. For example, funding from Sandwell MBC is only open to groups who are registered with the local Council and who are based within Sandwell.

However, much of the general advice is relevant to a wider audience so if you aren’t one of our members please feel free to use the guide as a general resource to help you to avoid some of the common mistakes groups make when applying for funding.

It is also notthe purpose of this document or the accompanying Template for Finding Funding toolkit to be exhaustive examinations of all of the funding pots that may be open to groups – but as a signposting exercise to help ensure any funding application you make is sound and well thought through. That you have considered all the implications and obligations that come as part of a successful funding application and that the group has the resources and expertise to deliver on their obligations. This is very important – acceptance of funding grants can carry long term legal consequences for the group in the event of things going wrong! You need to ensure your research and planning is adequate to prevent such a situation arising – we will help flag up some of the potential issues involved, and hopefully alert your group to some of the potential pitfalls groups can encounter along the way.
