Two Sandwell kickboxers are celebrating after winning gold medals and English titles at a recent competition. Brother and sister Jayden (age 11) and Ellie (age 18) from Wednesbury attended the championships in Worcester and fought superbly, both had to win three fights to take their respective titles.

Both fighters are members of the Great Britain elite squad and train regularly at the Rick Dubidat Blackbelt Academy in West Bromwich where they receive expert tuition. Both are aiming to achieve their 1st degree black belts this November. Both Jayden and Ellie are being supported by Sandwell Council’s ‘Gifted and Talented’ programme. The programme makes small financial grants to help young athletes to achieve their sporting potential.

Jayden and Ellie have received support towards travel costs, kit and accommodation.

Councillor Bill Gavan, cabinet member for leisure went to meet the champion brother and sister. He said: “This is just what the Gifted and Talented Programme is all about.

I am delighted we've been able to support Jayden and Ellie and wish them all the best in their future competitions.” With money from Sandwell Council's Gifted and Talented programme, Jayden and Ellie will both be heading to the World Championships in Holland at the end of October where they are hoping to be on the winners' podium again.
