May Bank Holiday fun with Sandwell Libraries

Sandwell Libraries are hosting a ‘School Holiday staycation’ during May Bank Holiday week (25 – 31 May 2020).

A range of virtual children’s activities will be on offer via Sandwell Libraries’ social media channels, including STEM learning activities, craft sessions, children’s parties, magic shows, story time, quizzes and live music events. Councillor Wasim Ali, Deputy Leader of Sandwell Council said: “Our library service continues to innovate, providing a range of fun activities for residents, both online and through the Sandwell Libraries Facebook page.

“This brilliant service has been highlighted as an example of one of the best digital library services by Libraries Connected, the organisation supporting libraries in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

The extremely popular live story times were highlighted as a key service. “I am extremely proud of our library staff and the services they are providing Sandwell residents.” The Sandwell libraries Facebook page has enjoyed a massive surge in popularity.

During April, engagement went up by 235 per cent and the Facebook channel almost 25,000 video views - an incredible 961 per cent up on the pre-lockdown period.

Other activities available include: For Library Members interesting in having their own 'Who Do You Think You Are?' moment, there is FREE access to Ancestry.co.uk.

Users need to login to their account at www.sandwell.gov.uk/librariesonline, click the Renew/Account button and then click the Ancestry link.
