| Attracting
volunteers |
| |
The
first question we need to ask is how we are going to promote
to this audience? We could consider door knocking but in this
instance we will decide to out a promotional leaflet through
people's doors to try and attract people to join us. |
| |
Because
we are trying to make our group appear welcoming and friendly
we will present the leaflet in a fairly 'chatty' style, telling
them a bit of background about who we are and what we do,
along with where we are based. |
| |
The
next thing we might wish to do is tell them what we are offering
to them and what they will get out of being an active member
of the group. Such advantages might include:- |
| |
- Training
- Skills
development
- Invitations
to conferences and seminars
- Confidence
building
- Individual
mentoring from an established group member
- Gain
experience employers will respect and acknowledge
|
| |
Finally
you will want to emphasis what you are looking for from them!
This might be:- |
| |
- Time
- Enthusiasm
- Maybe
some background knowledge or experience (if the work you
undertake is very specialised)
|
| |
Of
all these the most important will probably be enthusiasm and
you might want to stress that aspect of what you are looking
for from people. It is also wise to stress that new volunteers
will be supported by more experienced members, this should
help gain the confidence of your audience. |
| |
Remember,
each audience is slightly different. Try and think of things
from the perspective of that audience. What would information
would you be looking for if you were one of them. |
