GARDEN WASTE COLLECTIONS IN SANDWELL START

Garden waste collections in Sandwell are to get underway in time for spring gardening – starting from 27 February and will run until November 2017.

Garden waste bin collections are collected every two weeks.

Residents can see when their collections are by logging onto ‘When’s my bin day’ on the council website, from 25 February when the new dates will be online. Councillor David Hosell, cabinet member for highways and environment, said: “Gardeners will welcome the return of this service so that they can get started with vital garden clean-up work before the growing season gets into full swing. “We urge people to recycle garden waste by putting it in their green bins – including grass cuttings, shrubs and hedge clippings, plants and weeds, as well as bark and old flowers.” Residents can access the bin day calendar by visiting www.sandwell.gov.uk/binday and entering their postcode.

If residents have large amounts of heavy garden waste then it can be split over several collections or taken to the tip at Shidas Lane in Oldbury, open 8am-4pm every day.

Residents are reminded that garden waste should be loose inside the bin and old plant pots cannot be recycled and should be placed in the grey household waste bin.

All garden waste is taken to a specialist site in the region and recycled into compost
