Bristnall Hall Academy in Oldbury is opening its doors to former pupils, staff and governors to celebrate its 90 year anniversary.

On Saturday 14 July the school will be open from 12 midday until 4pm with the afternoon including tours of the academy, photos of past staff and pupils and a range of food stalls including cake, Asian and Caribbean food and ice cream.

The school first opened in 1928 as a boys and girls secondary school as well as being a primary school for a short period of time.

Over time the school has changed its name slightly but always maintaining the ‘Bristnall’ to represent the local area.

Over the decades thousands of children have come through the doors.

Bristnall Hall Boys and Girls High School, as it was known then, was originally built as a secondary modern school to take students from the Warley area who did not pass their 11+ exams. During the 1970s the school became a comprehensive and in recent years an academy.

Vince Green, principal at Bristnall Hall Academy said: "We at Bristnall Hall are extremely proud of our history and community.

To celebrate our 90th anniversary at a time when we are witnessing so much success from our brilliant young people is well timed. "Our school will continue to play as significant a role in our community as it did in 1928 and I invite people to come along to this event where our staff and pupils will give a warm welcome." Councillor Carol Goult has been involved with Bristnall Hall for 30 years and will be at the 90th anniversary celebrations.

She said: "My three children all came to Bristnall Hall and now one of my grandchildren is a pupil. There really is a rich history over the last 90 years. The school staff and pupils do lots in the local community so this event to celebrate its history promises to be a great day. "I would urge past pupils, staff and governors to come along and help us celebrate on 14 July." To add to the collection of old photos, the school are also on the look-out for any old photos or memorabilia ex-pupils may have, especially the earlier decades.
