Thimblemill Brook secures lottery funding for improvements

The Friends of Thimblemill Brook have been awarded nearly £50,000 by Community Spaces The Big Lottery Fund.

They money will be used to construct and build a bridge that will cross Thimblemill Brook between Bernard Road and Hurst Road. Additional environmental work will also be done with the funding.

Thimblemill Brook friends' treasurer Moira Black said: "The group would like to express our thanks to all those who completed the questionnaire on the website. "The completed questionnaires from local surveys showed that people wanted more access to the brook and it's wildlife. "As a result we bid for money for the construction of a bridge with handrails and access paths which will cross the brook between Bernard Road and Hurst Road. "There will also be a seat and a way marker. There will be planting of wild primrose and tree saplings by local school children."
