Not-for-profit organisations working with children and young

people aged 18 or under can apply for grants of up to £40,000 per year for up to three years to support their core costs. Core costs funding can be spent on the applicant’s day-to-day operations. These might include, for example:

• Management and administration,

• HR and payroll,

• General office expenses,

• Accountancy and audit,

• Communications and outreach,

• Monitoring, evaluation, and learning,

• Governance, regulatory, and compliance costs. Organisations seeking funding in excess of £15,000 per year are required to be registered with the appropriate regulatory body, such as the Charity Commission for England and Wales, Charity Commission for Northern Ireland, or the Scottish Charity Register.

Additionally, companies limited by guarantee must be registered with Companies House. While the grant programme prioritises smaller local organisations, exceptions are made for certain cases. Organisations with an annual turnover exceeding £1 million can still apply if they fall into categories such as hospices (including children’s hospices), housing associations, or if their work has a nationwide impact.
