PET MEMORIAL GARDEN UNVEILED SANDWELL VALLEY CREMATORIUM

A Pet Memorial Garden has been unveiled at Sandwell Valley Crematorium by Sandwell Council.

Last week the garden was officially opened by the Mayor of Sandwell, Councillor Barbara Price and Leader of Sandwell Council, Councillor Darren Cooper.

Set amongst green fields the tranquil gardens have been designed to meet the needs of those who lose a pet and will offer a final resting place for animals once they have passed away.

Families can choose to have a burial plot with a memorial to their pet in the form of a headstone or an above ground memorial where ashes can be placed within.

There will also be a dedicated area for families to scatter the ashes of their pets.

Rory Lydon from Scott Veterinary Clinic at Great Barr said:

"As one of the local vets I must praise Sandwell council in establishing a pet cemetery, fulfilling a need that is not there at present.

"This cemetery will be a great facility for grieving pet owners to have on their doorstep."

Sandwell Council bosses also endorsed the introduction of the pet memorial garden.

Leader of Sandwell Council, Councillor Darren Cooper said:

"We have created this pet memorial garden in response to requests from local residents.

"Sadly I lost one of my dogs last year and found it was difficult to find anywhere like this locally.

"Pets are dear to people's hearts and part of the family so these facilities will ensure they get a fitting send off and memorial."
