Sandwell Council and Millennium Centre launch book service in Friar Park
Sandwell Libraries and Friar Park Millennium Centre have joined forces to
provide a library service for local residents. The new library provision was officially launched at the Friar Park Millennium Centre on Tuesday 4 July. The library is currently open Mondays and Tuesdays, 1.30pm - 5pm. Customers can currently loan out books. There is also a public computer for customers to use, with access to MySandwell. Councillor Syeda Khatun, Sandwell Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health and Communities (with responsibility for libraries), and Councillor Simon Hackett, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, attended and cut the ribbon.
Pupils from The Priory Primary School also attended the launch and were treated to a show by entertainer, Ron Popple. The launch comes after a successful pilot which began in September 2022. Since the pilot was launched, more than 1,400 visitors have come through the doors and 1,350 books have been issued.
The service has also seen more people signing up to become a member of Sandwell Libraries. The service has also meant that local children, including classes from The Priory Primary School, have been able to access library services.
Local nurseries have also visited the library provision, enjoying stories and crafts.
