Sandwell completes Jubilee Park Refurbishment Project
Sandwell Council is happy to announce that it has
refurbished the old sand based astro turf at Jubilee Park to benefit residents in Tipton and Great Bridge.
The scheme aims to revitalise the sporting facility so local people, sports teams and partner organisation can use it to participate in a range of sports and sporting events. The surface of the pitch was renewed with appropriate markings, in order to develop a sports programme for the local area.
This refurbishment enables us to provide a multi-use facility that will help the community to participate in sports, improving health and fitness and inspiring young people, in particular, to consider the sports sector for future employment. The project has improved, amongst others, the existing entrance arrangements, surrounding fencing and playing surface. Sandwell would like to thank the Bangladeshi Women’s Associations who were part of the initial impetus behind the scheme pre-Covid and also Sport England who have provided just of £50k of funding towards the scheme.
This project looks to engage with over 1,000 participants each year through the following sports – Cricket, Football, Kabaddi, Tennis and Netball. The project aims to target both Tipton and boroughwide residents into a recreational sports programmes in order to challenge obesity rates, raise levels of fitness and encourage community integration. This will positively impact on both individuals and on families.
Councillor Charn Singh Padda, Sandwell Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism, said: “I would like to thank all those concerned who have helped ensure that this important community asset is brought back into use for the local residents, sports and wider community clubs. “Having this refreshed multi-use sports area will encourage local people to take up more sport, get active and become healthier, which can only be good for individuals, families and the wider community.” And this not all that has been happening in Sandwell’s parks and green spaces.
