Sandwell widens Home Upgrade Grant availability
In line with Government changes,
Sandwell Council has announced that the residents with a household income of up to £36,000 may now be eligible for a Home Upgrade Grant (HUG). Previously the household income criteria for HUG was £5,000 lower at £31,000 to be eligible for this initiative to bring fully-funded energy upgrades to low-income households. Leveraging the expertise of the partners in this scheme, West Midlands Combined Authority and Marches Energy Agency, the initiative offers comprehensive energy efficiency upgrades and low carbon heating solutions, empowering Sandwell homeowners to attain a sustainable future.
Tenants of privately rented homes can also apply, subject to Landlord approval. Residents are eligible if they own, or privately rent their home, don’t use a mains gas heating system, have a household income of up to £36,000 and their home has an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating between D and G. HUG provides fully funded measures like insulation and double glazing, contributing to a more energy-efficient and comfortable living environment.
Beyond individual benefits, HUG is a significant step towards creating a greener, healthier community, aligning with broader environmental goals. Eligible homeowners are encouraged to apply by contacting Marches Energy Agency at 0800 677 1307 (option 4) or This email address is being protected from spambots. Sandwell Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Infrastructure, Councillor Peter Hughes, said: “I am happy to announce the extension of the Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) initiative to more households.
This program demonstrates the council’s commitment to addressing both fuel poverty and climate change. By partnering with the West Midlands Combined Authority and Marches Energy Agency we will create a greener, healthier community while addressing the needs of those with limited resources. “HUG provides fully-funded energy upgrades to eligible households and will help them to make savings on their energy bills during this cost of living crisis. I would encourage eligible households to take up this opportunity."
