Sandwell Council supports residents into new jobs

throughout the year, but at this time of year many more people may be looking to change. Sandwell is here to help. In addition to the day-to-day support our teams offer, there are also tailored events available in early 2023.

Connexions Sandwell is holding a New Year New Start event for 14-19 year old (up to 25 with EHCP) and young adults not in education, employment or training on Saturday 21 January 2023 from 10am – 2pm at West Bromwich Albion – The Hawthorns.

There will be employers, colleges, sixth forms, universities, apprenticeship and training providers all waiting to meet you and all with the same goal – to get you into employment, education, training or into an apprenticeship. To attend you must book online, go to the Connexions Sandwell website.

Connexions Sandwell is an all-year round support service for young people aged 13 to 18 (up to the age of 25 for young people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities). Connexions offers career information, advice, guidance and practical help about education, training and employment.

Sandwell Council is holding a Work in Adult Social Care event on Friday 3 February from 10am – 3pm at Sandwell Council House, Oldbury. Anyone can register to attend and find out about various positions available across Adult Social Care including posts in our commissioning, learning disabilities and reablement teams, as well as other services. We need people to join our Adult Social Care teams to support our residents to live healthy and independent lives. We have opportunities available to suit different skill sets and preferences – from office based posts to support roles out in the community. People can register online for the event at Eventbrite

Alternatively, just turn up on the day and you will be welcomed into the session. At Careers in Sandwell you can discover what jobs and apprenticeships are available locally, plus the support available to get into employment, education or training. The event will take place on Tuesday 7 February between 2pm and 5.30pm in the Chamber at Sandwell Council House, Freeth Street, Oldbury (B69 3DB sat nav).

Booking via Eventbrite is recommended. There are council teams that can help people into work or to change their career throughout the year. The Leader of Sandwell Council, Councillor Kerrie Carmichael, said: “We want everyone to be able to work towards a career they love and where they feel appreciated. “Helping people to find employment, education and training is one of the really important ways the council is able to support residents. Attending one of our upcoming events or contacting one of our teams may be that first important step for many people who are looking for a change in career, a new job or a new training opportunity.”

The Think Sandwell Employment and Skills team supports people of all ages to find employment and training. Whether you are looking to start your career, return to the workplace after a break, get a new job or apprenticeship or change career or find work after being made redundant, Think Sandwell offers impartial advice and guidance on your options. The Think Sandwell team provides employability support such as CV help and interview practice, and can also help you to find funded training to improve your skills to move into work.

The team also supports residents with a disability or mental health condition who would like to find or return to work but would need additional support to do so.

To access this service you must be a Sandwell resident, unemployed, have a disability or mental health condition and want support to find paid employment.
